Details: The background of the truck overturning photo relates to a local football match in Indonesia between the teams Persabaya and PSIS Semarang. Fans of Persabaya, known as “Bonek,” traveled to the match using 24 trucks provided by the Indonesian military. The match ended with a 2-0 victory for Persabaya. After the game, the jubilant fans boarded the military trucks for their return journey, waving flags and celebrating their team’s win. However, due to the trucks being overloaded, one of them lost its balance and tipped over despite the driver’s efforts. The driver, Prada Munib, an Indonesian soldier, attempted to regain control but was unsuccessful. Fortunately, most passengers were unharmed, though 12 were hospitalized with minor injuries from the overturning.
Meanwhile, photographer Sholihuddin was assigned to cover the post-match celebrations and had positioned himself on Ambengan Street, anticipating that the fans would pass by. When one of the trucks overturned just 10 meters away from him, he promptly captured the moment and rushed the photo to his news agency. Upon developing the film, the photo turned out to be stunning, and the editor-in-chief decided it should be featured on the front page. However, there was concern about potential sensitivities since the truck belonged to the Indonesian military. Despite these concerns, the photo was published, and although the photographer was apprehensive, the military had no objections. The image of the overturned truck quickly spread through international media and received widespread acclaim, ultimately earning a prestigious international journalism award the following year.
